Located at 3338 Sawmill Crescent in Vancouver’s River District, the Sawmill project is a transformative affordable housing initiative developed by TL Housing Solutions in partnership with the Community Land Trust Foundation of BC (CLT). This mixed-tenure development comprises a 26-storey tower and a six-storey mid-rise building, collectively offering 337 homes. Of these, 220 are affordable rental units operated by M’akola Housing Society, while 117 are co-operative homes managed by CLT. Designed by GBL Architects with landscape architecture by Durante Kreuk, the buildings feature corrugated metal cladding and protruding balconies, reflecting the area's industrial heritage. The project emphasizes sustainability, meeting BC Energy Step Code 3 standards and incorporating features such as high R-value insulation, triple-glazed windows, and in-suite heat pumps for heating and cooling. Amenities include indoor and outdoor common spaces, a shared kitchen, community gardens, and access to Modo car share services, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community.
NuFrame was engaged to deliver a comprehensive material supply package for the Sawmill project, encompassing wall panels, design, delivery, and labour for the wood frame structures. By overseeing every aspect from prefabrication to on-site installation, NuFrame ensured precision and efficiency throughout the construction process. Their integrated approach contributed to the successful realization of this significant development, enhancing Vancouver's affordable housing landscape with quality craftsmanship and innovative design.
